TikTok is a short-form video social media platform that allows users to create and share videos using music, text, filters, and editing tools. While TikTok is often seen as an entertainment app, it has grown into a powerful space for education, news, and professional content. The app’s algorithm allows videos to reach a wide audience quickly, making it an effective tool for sharing ideas and engaging viewers. TikTok encourages creativity and concise communication, which are valuable skills in both academic and professional settings.
In college coursework, TikTok can be used as an alternative way to present information and demonstrate understanding of course material. Instead of traditional discussion posts or presentations, students can use TikTok to summarize readings, explain key concepts, or reflect on assignments in a creative way. The app’s video format helps improve communication skills and encourages students to think critically about how to present information clearly and efficiently. TikTok can also be useful for group projects, allowing classmates to collaborate and share ideas in a more engaging and interactive format.
For my future career in sports media, TikTok is a valuable platform for building a personal brand and connecting with a wider audience. Sports content performs extremely well on TikTok, including highlights, commentary, game reactions, and behind-the-scenes clips. Using TikTok can help me practice creating short, engaging sports content while learning how to attract and maintain viewer interest. The skills developed through TikTok—such as storytelling, audience engagement, and digital media production—are directly transferable to careers in sports journalism, broadcasting, and social media management.

ReplyDeleteI never thought about TikTok being a tool for presenting information for courses, but I thought it was very interesting how you showed a great alternative use of the social media app. TikTok can definitely be a useful tool for your future career in sports media.
ReplyDeleteGina, before TikTok, Vine was the original platform used for short form videos until Meta bought Instagram and created their own. TikTok blew up due to how it kept you engaged with videos for a long period of time plus the government didn’t want you using it. Like you mentioned the video editing tools they provide exceed other platforms which helped every day individuals posting videos that at times went viral.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you explained that TikTok is more than just an entertainment app and highlighted its role in education and professional development. Your point about the algorithm helping content reach a wide audience quickly is especially important, because that kind of exposure is something that is offered traditionally
