Social media today plays a huge role in how people communicate, share opinions, and build their personal or professional image. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X allow users to instantly reach large audiences. While this can be positive, it also means that anything posted can quickly spread and have long-lasting consequences.
Because of this, social media etiquette is extremely important. Good etiquette includes thinking before posting, respecting others, avoiding offensive or harmful content, and understanding that your digital footprint can affect your future opportunities. People are expected to act responsibly online just as they would in real life. Inappropriate posts, jokes, or actions can lead to backlash, loss of reputation, or even professional consequences.
As someone who wants to go into social media for sports, this lesson and topic are eye-opening. Preparing my future and future self with what I post and being careful and smart about what I am putting out there. Double-checking and making sure my content is appropriate and not offensive to others.
In my VoiceThread, I discussed the controversy involving Logan Paul and his video filmed in the Aokigahara Forest, also known as the “suicide forest” in Japan. In the video, Logan Paul showed the body of a person who had died by suicide, which was extremely disrespectful and inappropriate. He appeared to make jokes and act insensitively in a serious situation, which caused major backlash from viewers around the world. Many people felt that he violated basic human respect and used a tragic moment for views and attention. As a result, he lost sponsorships, faced public criticism, and had his content removed from YouTube’s preferred advertising program. This situation highlights the importance of social media etiquette. Logan Paul failed to consider the impact of his actions before posting. It shows that content creators have a responsibility to be respectful and aware of how their content affects others. Overall, this case demonstrates how quickly things can go wrong on social media when people ignore ethical guidelines.
Your discussion of Logan Paul is a powerful example of how harmful content can lead to real consequences, especially professionally. I also like how you connected this lesson to your future career goals in sports media.
ReplyDeleteI think your post does a really good job explaining how impactful social media can be and why it’s so important to be responsible when you make a post. The example of Logan Paul shows how one poor decision can lead to major backlash and real consequences, especially when it involves something serious like the Aokigahara Forest.
